A quick trip up the road takes you to Tyrone Mills where methods of the last century are still used to produce lumber and apple cider. Purchase some warm apple cider doughnuts and stop in just a few doors away at 1849 Tyrone United Church & Foundation Garden to relax and experience the amazing gardens in the ruins of former Carriage House. Drop into Brooklin for lunch at one of the local teahouses or restaurants. A quick trip north brings you to Ocala Orchards Farm Winery to sample their award-winning wines. Non-alcoholic sparkling juices can also be purchased. Enjoy shopping in the Victorian village of Port Perry then check in at one of the local bed and breakfasts. Mosport International RacewayFrom the grand estate and former home of R. Samuel McLaughlin, founder of General Motors of Canada, to The Robert McLaughlin Gallery and the McLaughlin Plaque at the site of the old family homestead, Durham Region truly has a history deeply connected to the automotive industry and the generosity of this well-known family. The Canadian Automotive Museum shows the evolution of the automobile with vehicles dating from 1898 to 1981 on display and is located in an original 1920’s car dealership. Plan to have dinner at Haugen’s Chicken & Rib BBQ in Manchester during one of their regular Wednesday night Class Car Cruises held throughout the summer. Durham’s Road to Avonlea

Pickering Museum VillageWalk through buildings used in the filming of both the movie and TV series “Road to Avonlea,” as well as the classic “Anne of Green Gables,” while you peek into the lives of settlers from the 1800’s. Leaskdale is home to the Manse where Lucy Maude Montgomery and her husband, a Presbyterian Minister, lived with their two sons from 1911 to 1926. L.M. Montgomery wrote eleven of her twenty-two books during this time. Your travels down Regional Road 1 back to the town of Uxbridge take you past the Thomas Foster Memorial a beautiful structure inspired by the Taj Mahal. Why not stop in for a relaxing dinner at one of the local historic restaurants and experience the flavour of the community. Drop in on the site of a real spy training camp – a site where Ian Fleming did some training! Stop in at the Oshawa Military and Industrial Museum, home of the largest collection of running and operational military equipment in Canada. The Robert Stuart Aeronautical Collection, now on display in two of the original Second World War huts from the Oshawa #20 Elementary Flight Training School. More artifacts from Camp-X are on display at the ‘Lynn Philip Hodgson Camp-X Collection’ located at the The Grenadier, site of the War Memorial Museum in Port Perry. While in town, stop in at a sidewalk café, pub or restaurant for a delightful lunch, visit the many unique shops and boutiques and then step aboard the ‘Woodman’ for a relaxing cruise of Lake Scugog.
